Single-use plastic bags are a big environmental problem not only locally but globally. We currently live in a culture of waste where everything is discarded. For example, there are 500 billion plastic bags waiting to be reused in the planet. These residuals are not reused, repaired or recovered and cause the death of terrestrial and marine fauna, creating floating dumps of non-biodegradable materials like the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.[1]This oceanic dump is characterized by high concentrations of plastic and has a size of 1,400,000 km², twice the surface of Chile, 21.5 times the surface of Lithuania and 17.5 times the surface of Scotland. Despite the fact that plastic bags are made from petroleum- precious resource, only 1%-3% plastic bags are recycled worldwide. Normally, plastic items can take up to 1,000 years to decompose in landfills. This means that majority of the plastic that has ever been produced has not degraded yet.


REPLASTICO2 will help reducing carbon dioxide emissions by taking petroleum-based resources to remake non-toxic PET or LDPE plastics. It will save valuable natural resources, diminish landfill waste, stop street littering and the incineration of plastic. Chosen plastics are 100% reusable, safe, non-toxic, strong, lightweight, flexible, and easy to iron/melt/fuse, cut and saw. An average plastic carrier bag weights 32.5g, which means 200g C02. The carbon footprint of five plastic bags is 1kg of CO2!!!
